Biography

  • Grew up in East Africa and Scotland, graduated in Computer Science at the University of York.
  • Has lived in Belgium since 1984, working in the software industry as a technical architect.
  • Founded iMatix Corporation in 1996.
  • Main works from 1992-2000 include the Xitami web server, Libero code generator, and other iMatix products.
  • In 2004-6, was principal author of the AMQP middleware standard and main developer of the OpenAMQ middleware server.
  • In 2005, was elected president of the FFII, the association fighting for a fair and free information infrastructure.
  • In 2006, started the CAPSoff campaign as an example of 'wikiturfing'; running a grassroots campaign using only free internet tools.
  • In 2006, launched the European Patent Conference (EUPACO) to discuss and define a new European patent system.
  • In 2007, founded the European Software Market Association to represent the independent software market in Europe, is currently General Secretary of Esoma.
  • In 2007, founded the Digital Standards Association to promote open IT standards.
  • Is CEO of Wikidot Inc., a US firm that develops the popular Wikidot.com web platform.
  • He also writes, drums, spends time with his beautiful wife, daughter, and baby son, and enjoys Brussels.
  • Is a member of Mensa, Rotary International, and the FFII.
