Biography
- Grew up in East Africa and Scotland, graduated in Computer Science at the University of York.
- Has lived in Belgium since 1984, working in the software industry as a technical architect.
- Founded iMatix Corporation in 1996.
- Main works from 1992-2000 include the Xitami web server, Libero code generator, and other iMatix products.
- In 2004-6, was principal author of the AMQP middleware standard and main developer of the OpenAMQ middleware server.
- In 2005, was elected president of the FFII, the association fighting for a fair and free information infrastructure.
- In 2006, started the CAPSoff campaign as an example of 'wikiturfing'; running a grassroots campaign using only free internet tools.
- In 2006, launched the European Patent Conference (EUPACO) to discuss and define a new European patent system.
- In 2007, founded the European Software Market Association to represent the independent software market in Europe, is currently General Secretary of Esoma.
- In 2007, founded the Digital Standards Association to promote open IT standards.
- From 2007-2010 was CEO of Wikidot Inc., a US firm that develops the popular Wikidot.com web platform.
- From 2010 on, chairs the ZeroMQ project, an open source product and community launched by iMatix.
- He also writes, drums, spends time with his beautiful wife, daughter, and two sons, and enjoys Brussels.
- Is a member of Mensa, Rotary International, and the FFII.
